Who Is The Next US Ambassador To The UN Now –  Nikki Halley, US Ambassador to UN has resigned from her office

News of Haley’s departure broke Tuesday morning, Donald Trump accepting her resignation personally. She will continue in her role until the end of the year. Speaking in the Oval Office, he said: ‘Nikki Haley has been very special to me…She’s done a fantastic job.

She told me six months ago she wants to take a break.’ Donald Trump pictured with departing US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley in the Oval Office Tuesday, with the president announcing that she wants to ‘take a break’ (Picture: AP) Trump did not offer further detail on why Haley is leaving, but her departure appears to be unusually amicable by the standards of his administration.

Haley also told reporters of her plans to campaign for Trump’s reelection in 2020 – but ruled out running against him. She said: ‘No, I am not running for 2020.

I can promise you what I’ll be doing is campaigning for this one. ‘I look forward to supporting the president in the next election.’ Her warm chat with Trump has sparked speculation she is being lined up for a Senate position in the wake of next month’s midterms, with pundits touting Haley as a potential future vice presidential or presidential candidate.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders says President Trump will meet Haley in the Oval Office at 10:30am EST. President Trump has taken an increasingly combative stance on the UN in recent months, and last month accused it of becoming bloated and bureaucratic.

He called for sweeping reforms in order to make the UN ‘a stronger, more effective, more just and greater force for peace and harmony in the world.’ Haley and Trump pictured at the UN General Assembly in New York City last month Haley is said to have enjoyed a good relationship with Donald Trump, despite backing Marco Rubio in the 2016 presidential election race.

The politician, whose parents are Indian, also criticized the anti-immigrant rhetoric spoken during that campaign, which was seen as a dig at Trump.

She is said to have approached Trump directly with any issues since he became president, and has been widely mooted as a possible future presidential candidate. Haley has worked as US Ambassador to the UN since Trump’s inauguration since January 2017, and is one of the longest-serving members of his administration.

She previously served as Governor of South Carolina, between 2011 and her promotion to the UN in 2017, and spent six years prior to that serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
