The Nigeria U-20 Women’s team, the Falconets, battles  against their Spanish counterparts in the first quarterfinal pairing of the ongoing FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup in France.

While Spain will be hoping to continue the fine form shown in a tough Group C , the Nigerian Ladies will be banking on their greater experience at the tournament to pull through.

To reach this stage, Nigeria lost to Germany 1-0 in their opening game, defeated Haiti 1-0 and needed a late own goal by China right-back, Jiaxing Dou, to book their place in the knockout stages.

On their part, the Spanish U-20 women side started off its World Cup run on a hot streak. In their first game, a hat trick from Patricia Guijarro led the Spanish past Paraguay 4-1.

La Rojita edged a gritty Japanese side 1-0 in its second game thanks to a 16th-minute game-winner from Carmen Menayo.

Having qualified for the quarter-finals, Spain were held to a 2-2 draw by USA in their final group game.

It is yet to be seen how Thursday’s quarterfinal win pan out.

GOALLLL. Spain makes it 2-0First Half Analysis

First Half Analysis

With below 30% of possession and out of ideas in the last third, the Falconets are just about hanging on. The Spaniards were so much better in the first half and it was heroic defending from the Nigerians that have simply kept the deficit to two goals.

What can Christopher Musa do in the second half? They need to play more coherently in the Spanish half and try as much as possible to press the ball whilst keeping the available players under check.

it was a poor half but all is not lost if the Nigerians can push more offensively and try to stop marking space in the middle of the pitch.
