John Krasinski: Krasinski, who plays the father of the family, described his character as a survivalist who focuses on getting his family through each day.
Emily Blunt: Blunt plays the mother in the family. Krasinski describes Blunt’s character wanting to ensure their children “be fully-formed, fully-thinking people”.
Noah Jupe: Jupe plays the hearing son in the film. Krasinski noticed Jupe in the 2016 miniseries The Night Manager and later got to see an early screening of Suburbicon (2017) to evaluate Jupe’s performance.
Millicent Simmonds: Simmonds plays the family’s deaf daughter, and Krasinski said he sought a deaf actress, “… for many reasons, I didn’t want a non-deaf actress pretending to be deaf. Most importunely [sic] though, because a deaf actress would help my knowledge and my understanding of the situations tenfold. I wanted someone who lives it and who could teach me about it on set.”
