Workshop on Conducting Successful Research 2018, Date And Time

The workshop will be conducted by Commonwealth alumni and is a step towards providing undergraduate and master’s students with an opportunity to directly learn from some of the most brilliant minds and expert Commonwealth alumni in Bangladesh. We hope the tertiary level students will be able to acquire useful insights about the philosophy of research and learn various tool-tips to enhance their research skills. The panel will include three Commonwealth alumni:

  1. Dr M Shafiq ur Rahman, Professor and Chair, Department of Urban & Regional Planning, Jahangirnagar University
  2. Dr Biswas Karabi Farhana, Professor and Graduate Programme Coordinator, Department of Environmental Science & Management, North South University
  3. Dr Rumana Islam, Associate Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka

The moderator for the workshop will be another Commonwealth alumnus, Dr Haseeb Md. Irfanullah, Member, Editorial Board of Bangladesh Journal of Plant Taxonomy (BJPT) and The Journal of NOAMI; Mentor, AuthorAID/INASP (UK) and Gobeshona Young Researcher Programme (ICCCAD/IUB); Programme Coordinator, IUCN Bangladesh

  • Why do we do research?
  • Gold, Ribbon, Puzzle theory

Topic 1: How to start a research?

  • Identify a research problem
  • Literature review – to know: why to do the research and how?
  • Research proposal – Table of Contents, how to write grant proposals

Topic 2: How to do a research?

  • Research Plan
  • Importance of research methods
  • Types and examples of methods: Qualitative vs Quantitative
  • Limitations of methods

Topic 3: How to document a research?

  • Data analysis – Results
  • Data interpretation – Discussion
  • How to write a Thesis – Table of Contents
