Kogi State Governor, Yahaya bello, said on Wednesday that no one can stop President Muhammadu Buhari from contesting for re-election.
This was against the backdrop of the statement credited to the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, that Buhari has under-performed and should not even conceive of running for second term, but should rather resign.
Governor Bello further noted that no campaign of calumny would pull the President down to be re-elected, and that Buhari had an full support of Nigerians to move on because he is a transparent leader.
Bello made that statement in Lokoja at the launching of the rehabilitation centre for drug abusers, wondering how people who plundered the resources of the country would be contemplating returning to power, saying such would not happen.
The governor added that Buhari was trying his best to fight against corruption, insurgency and in improving the country’s economy and “that those plotting against his re-election can not stop him.”
But reacting to the development, Prof. Olufunmilayo Adesanya-Davies, a presidential aspirant, said Obasanjo was right in his declaration.
Adesanya-Davis, who spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State is aspiring to seek presidency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, urged Buhari to listen to the former president.
“What Obasanjo said is what is on the mind of reasonable Nigerians. His call for coalition for Nigeria is also a step forward”, he said.
