Recently The  National University Commission as at the year 2016/2017 approved the running of privately owned universities in Nigeria’s capital city Abuja.

The list is compiled in a serial order according to the year they were founded and establishment by different Private Individuals, Private Organizations, Private Business owners, Entrepreneurs, Churches, Mosques, etc. across Nigeria.

This specific list is to support students, lecturers, researchers, parents and guardians any part of the Nigerian states that intends to apply for any of the Universities/Institutions to know the approved and accredited course.

 African University of Science & Technology, Abuja:

   The African University of Science and Technology (AUST) is a university system concept developed by the Nelson Mandela Institution (NMI) aimed toward bringing the highest level of technical learning facilities to the continent of Africa. AUST represents a global effort to foster Sub-Saharan Africa’s economic growth and development through the promotion of excellence in science and engineering and their applications.

The ultimate vision of NMI is to develop four African institutions of science and technology across Sub-Saharan Africa — one each in the north, south, east, and west of the continent. AUST would draw on the decentralized model that has been successfully implemented by IIT-Bombay. Core disciplines in science and engineering would be delivered by all of the main campuses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Veritas University is a private university, located in Abuja. Veritas University  was founded in March 2002 by the Catholic Church of Nigeria and on July , the University was given full accreditation on all her programmes by the National Universities Commission after their first visit.

Nigerian Turkish Nile University, Abuja:

Nile University of Nigeria is a private university in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.

The Nigerian Turkish International College started in September 1998. The school opened with 76 students on a rented site at Cairo Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The NTIC has proliferated into a network of schools in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Lagos, Ogun and Yobe States. Parents and students of the NTIC have mounted pressure on the management to establish a university that will carry on the tradition of the NTIC at the tertiary level.
