The Good Karma Hospital is set in the southern Indian state of Kerala.
It has a similar landscape to southern Sri Lanka in terms of its tropical forests, coastline and tea plantations.
The state animal of Kerala is the elephant and it has more than 700 of them in captivity.
It is also home to the Padmanabhaswamy temple, the richest Hindu temple in the world.
Despite being set in Southern India, The Good Karma hospital is actually filmed in Sri Lanka’s Galle district.
The series is mostly shot in Unawatuna, a town on the southern tip of Sri Lanka known for its coral reef and palm-lined coast.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Neil Morrissey who plays Greg McConnell claimed a restaurant in Unawatuna served the “best tuna” he’d ever eaten.
Behind Unawatuna beach there is a teacher training college which forms the set of the hospital which features in the series.
The island was chosen as the series’ filming location due to India’s monsoon season.
